Christendorn

I love this plant. I got it as a start from my grandma, Omi's, plant more than 15 years ago. It's called Christendorn (in Dutch) or Christ's Thorn (in English).
I think it grows on Gibraltar.

The plant has long sharp thorns. And here's the cool thing: It is only supposed to bloom around Easter. Mine has been known to bloom at other times too. The red flowers represent the blood of Christ when he was in Gethsemane. I've also heard it's the plant His crown of thorns was made of. Think about that.

I love this plant and the thoughts it brings to mind when I see it in my kitchen window every day.
