Bergen has missed quite a bit of school this year. She'll get a sore throat on a Friday or Saturday, miss church
on Sunday, and then school on Monday, Tuesday, and sometimes even Wednesday. This has been happening every second or third week. For months. So we'll take her to the doctor, they'll do a strep test, and here's the kicker... the test is always negative.
After so many missed school days I couldn't take it any longer. I called our ENT and made and appointment. Bergen knows this doctor well since she's had tubes put in her ears three times!, and her adenoids out with the last set. Of course she wasn't sick by the time we were able to get an appointment, but we went just the same.
When all was said and done, the doctor gave me his nurse's direct phone number and asked me to call it the next time Berg got sick. The nurse would be sure to get her in.
I called. He was on vacation.
The next time I called, he was in. We saw him.
And even though my girlie didn't have strep (as usual), he decided she could definitely benefit from having her tonsils removed. Too many illnesses can make a doctor come to that deduction. (Yay.) The problem? It could take up to ten days for Bergen to heal after the surgery. Which meant we could try to schedule it over spring break, or we could wait until summer break. Either way we risked her missing more school.
Craig and I decided we would like to have Bergen's tonsils out sooner rather than later. So I made an appointment and we waited. The great thing is that she didn't get sick again between her pre-op appointment and the scheduled surgery. We were okay with that.
Spring Break couldn't come soon enough. On Tuesday, March 26, 2013, Bergen had a tonsillectomy. We made a big deal out of how many popsicles she would get to eat instead of focusing on the things she wouldn't be able to do and she was okay with that. She even had a handful of visitors bearing gifts while she recovered. (Thank you friends!) We all felt the love.
Here is the patient right out of surgery. Not a happy camper. Until she got a couple of popsicles under her belt.
And here she is once we were home and she'd settled into her daddy's recliner for the afternoon.
We are SO glad this ordeal is over, and are hoping that Bergen will be well for a long time to come. She's up and at 'em again, and we are very grateful to have our happy girl back!
